How Can Lydia Callis’ New Fame Serve as a Teachable Moment?

Since Hurricane Sandy, ASL interpreter Lydia Callis has become famous for her work interpreting for New York City Mayor Bloomberg. However, some in the Deaf community are offended by skits in which actors parody the situation, using mock sign language for laughs.
