Bridges to Children is a Teacher Training Program with intensive professional development, which includes weekly instruction of children in community-based sites. Starting with a three-week online course (May 13-31) to introduce participants to teaching principles through readings, we continue with a 3-week residential program in methods of teaching. Here the teaching practicum begins (June 7-28) combined with daily methods/teaching with collaborative lesson planning for immediate application and post-teaching reflection in a supportive team environment. The Indiana University setting offers easy access to the teaching settings. The program emphasizes personalized professional development for novice to experienced teachers interested in working with youngsters ages 3-13 (pre-k to grade 7). ACTFL standards-based instruction, as well as lesson and unit planning for developmentally appropriate teaching are key aspects. Participants should have at least a fair command of their language, a strong affinity for children, willingness to plan and teach in pairs, and willingness to design a community-based program. Six (under)graduate credits will be earned upon successful completion and counted toward certification. Materials and books provided. Visit the website below for additional information:
